Historical Background:
On the 21st of September, the Germans had received enough troops in reinforcement in Kefalonia to have the supremacy in a battle. Italian Division "Acqui" was in defense on the heights south of Kardakata. The German attack began during the night on two main directions, one column under the command of Major Hartmann was on the center of the battle, the other column, named Kampfgruppe Klebe attacked along the chain of Mount Vrochonios. In the first light of 22nd of September, several Stukas of the Luftwaffe arrived to support German troops. The battle was fierce and each side suffered heavy losses. Italian troops were out of ammunition and so General Gandin decided to surrender. In application of Hitler's orders, all Italian prisoners were shot immediately.
