Historical Background:
In order to pursue the assault on the town of Prokhorovka, the left wing of the 2nd SS Panzer Corps had to be secured by the SS Division 'Totenkopf'. It meant that the Division had to cross the Psel river near Kliutchi village before conquering Hill 226.6.
After many tries on July 10th, the Landser did cross the Psel and established a bridgehead in spite of counterattacks.
On July 11th, the armor units of the Division crossed the Psel. At the same time, the 'LAH' (1st SS Division called Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler) was three kilometers from Prokhorovka and was still bombed by the Soviet Artillery standing on Hill 226.6. The 'Totenkopf' Division assaulted the Hill in order to shut down the guns, but failed due to the Soviets resistance.
On July 12th, a violent counterattack of the 18th Soviet Armored Corps occurred on the wright wing of the Division. Facing the risk of surrounding, German forces stopped the attack, and at night, the 'Totenkopf' Division assaulted again the Hill.
But on July 13th, Hitler stopped Operation Zitadelle due to the Sicilia landing and to Luftwaffe warnings about heavy concentration of troops on the South Front.
Finally, Hill 226.6 will never be conquered.
