Historical Background:
During Operation Venice, the 90.Leichte Afrika Division had to guard the right flank of the Afrika Korps by advancing toward Bir el Gobi. In the morning of the 27th May, the division arrived in front of the "box" of Retma where the 7th Motor Brigade just took refuge. In spite of the courageous defense of the 4th Rodhesian Antitank Battery, the German motorized troops succeeded to enter in the box and to destroy it. At 10h00, near Bir Beouid, the armored cars of the Aufsklärungs Abteilung.33 (Recce battalion) captured the staff of the 7th Armoured Division with General Messervy and all the British radio codes.
