Historical Background: During the US operation to capture Japanese airfields on Cape Gloucester, the 2nd Battalion 1st Marine Regiment landed on the 26th of December 1943 on the west coast of New Britain at about 15 kilometers of the cape, on a beach codenamed "Green Beach". Under heavy rain, the Marines had taken defensive positions in the middle of a swampy jungle. The Japanese attack, made by two companies of the 53rd Infantry Regiment with the support of mortars, occurred only in the night of 29th to 30th of December. This attack was focused on Coffin Corner, the north west point of the defensive perimeter, hold by the Easy Company. The Marines were waiting for this attack and were prepared to fight. The battle lasted until the morning and, in the daylight the Marines counted about 90 dead Japanese in front of their positions. On their side , they lost only 6 KIA and 17 wounded. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn and you are in command. The rest is history.
