During the winter of 1942-43, the Russians launched frequent attacks in an attempt to crack the German defences, and relieve the siege of Leningrad. South of Leningrad, the hard-pressed Germans repelled assault after assault, but in doing so, the German defensive lines became thinner & thinner. Eventually, the Germans were forced to develop a mobile armored reserve force that could be deployed quickly, & used to counter an inevitable Russian breakthrough when they happened. One such force was 1st company, schwere Panzer Battalion 502, who were led by ace tanker Captain Hans Bolter. On the 12th of January, 1st Company was called upon to halt major Russian Armored incursions, by a full Battalion of the 122nd Tank Brigade. The Tigers and their Panzer III escorts arrived just in time to re-enforce the weak German Infantry positions. Although heavily outnumbered, accurate German gunnery & the superiority of the Tiger tank won the day, as they broke the back of the Russian 122nd Tank Brigade attack. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
