Historical Background:
After the battle for Kokoda village and Deniki, the 39th Australian Battalion withdrew on Isurava village and prepared a new defense line, on the two banks of Eora Creek. From mid-August, the 53rd Australian Battalion arrived on the Kokoda trail as reinforcement. Japanese troops attacked Isurava with three battalions on the 26th of August, after an artillery firing, the 1/144 was on the Kokoda trail, the 2/144 was on the other side of the river and the 3/144 made a flanking movement by the hills. After a fierce battle, the Australians withdrew to a new defensive position, called "Rest House", then to another near the village of Alola where they fought until the 31st of August, inflicting heavy losses to the Japanese. And then, they continued to retreat along the Kokoda trail.
