Historical Background:
In February 1941 Operation Abstention was a British operation to capture the small island of Kastellorizo in order to give the control of the Aegean Sea to the Royal Navy. On the 25th of February, 200 commandos and 24 Royal Marines landed on the island and captured the small Italian garrison and the radio station in the castle. But the Italians had alerted their main base in Rhodes, and in the same day the "Regia Aeronautica" began to bombard the island and the Royal Navy. On the 27th morning, 240 Italian infantrymen of the 4th Battalion/9th Infantry Regiment/50th Infantry Division "Regina" and 88 marines landed on their turn, north of Kastellorizo harbor while two torpedo boats "Lupo" and "Lince" opened fire on the British commandos. Because of the superiority of Italian forces, the Royal Navy re-embarked most of the commandos but the rear-guard was surrounded and then captured by the Italians.
