Historical Background: After a gallant behaviour in the battle of Gembloux on the 15th of May, the 1st Moroccan Division (1st DM) had to withdraw to the Lille area. On the 23rd of May, the division was ordered to defend the Deûle Canal near Carvin. Exhausted by the withdrawal, the units had a short time to prepare the defense in their sector before the arrival of the Germans. Repelled a first time on the 25th of May, the Germans attacked on the 26th on the entire front of the 1st DM. The only reinforcement gained by the division was five tanks of the 3rd DLM (Light Mechanized Division). On the 27th of May, the situation made worse with a new advance of the Germans threatening the 1st DM who had to counter-attack to stop the enemy. Then in the following night, the division was ordered to withdraw once again, but only a part of the division reach Dunkirk, the remnant was surrounded in the Lille pocket. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
