There are problems with this scenario: it cannot be set-up using the standard terrain tiles of Memoir '44 and the selected extensions. There are too many terrains of one or more types. Please contact the author.

Historical Background:
On September 13th, Paulus launchs the assault to take the town of Stalingrad. The defenders are gathering into the 62the Army 23 divisions beaten by the Germans for 2 months. With such conditions, the mission of Tchouikov, promoted on September 12th, to defend the town seems impossible ...

Briefing:
Axis player [Germany] : Take 5 Command cards. You move first
Allied Player [Soviet Union] : Take 4 Command cards

Conditions of Victory:
12 medals
The 7 hexes of Mamayev Hill (Hills, Trenches) are a Temporary Majority Objective Medal worth 1 medal for whoever controls them.
The landing stage (débarcadère) hex is a Temporary Objective Medal for the Axis player.
The Red October Factory hex is a Permanent Objective Medal for the Axis player.

Special Rules:
- The Breakthrough board is rotated 90 degrees so that the "left" side of the board is the German baseline and the "right" side is the Russian baseline. Use the "creases" of the board to define the 3 sections. Take care as retreats can be up to 3 hexes!
- Rivers are Fordable Rivers. (Terrain 41)
- The Russian player lays out the minefields. (Terrain 29 - Minefields)
- Use Specialized Forces rules (Troops 2), Combat Engineers rules (Troop 4), and
Sniper rules (Troops 10 - Snipers) for the 2 Russian units marked with
the corresponding badges.
- Use French Resistance rules (Nations 1) for the 2 Russian units with 4 figs and a Yugoslav
Resistance badge. They are representing the NKVD units who were present in the town.
- Use SWA Late War 1942> rules (SWA 4) for anti-tank, mortar and machine gun. (SWA 5, 6, 7)
- Use Tank Destroyer rules (Troops 24) for the German unit marked with the badge.
- Use "Nebelwerfer" rules (Troops 25) for the German artillery unit marked with the badge.
- Use D-Day Landings Ground Reinforcements rules (Actions 28) for the Russian player only. Roll 5 dice during the reinforcement phase. Only standard Infantry and two standard, two-figure Armor Units can be deployed. All other results are ignored. Flags do not allow On-The-Move orders as they do in D-Day Landings. The infantry reinforcements can only be deployed onto the two baseline hexes (remember the board is turned 90 degrees) marked with a battle star: the landing stage (débarcadère) hex and the hex behind the factories close to the Volga. The two 2-figure Standard Armor units can only be deployed onto the Red October factory hex marked with a battle star. This represents the fact that the Russians were still producing tanks in the factories until the very last minute. To keep track of units deployed, place 2 battle star tokens on the factory hex and remove one each time that an Armor unit is deployed. If a German unit occupies the factory hex at any time, remove all the battle star tokens and no more armor reinforcements are possible in the future.
- Use Town Control rules (Actions 29) for the landing stage infantry reinforcement hex and the Mamayev hill hex that are marked with the Axis objective tokens. Reinforcements are not possible for the Russians on the landing stage reinforcement hex as long as the hex is under German control.
- Use HG Capture rules (Actions 17) for the HG hex of Chuikov
- Use Air Raid rules (Actions 3) for the German player.
- Use Off-Map Artillery Support rules (Actions 35) for the Russian player when he controls Mamayev Hill.
- Use Molotov Cocktail rules (Actions 36) for both players. Each side begins the game with 4 Molotov cocktail tokens.
- The Russian player plays the Air Power card as an Artillery Bombard. If you are playing with the New Flight Plan expansion, the Air Power card is removed, and the Russian player can only activate two planes: the fighter and fighter bomber.
- Use Heroic Leader rules (Actions 8) for the Russian Engineer unit marked with a battle star that is close to the landing stage hex. This represents that Rodimtsev from the 13th Guards Rifle Division landed and joined the battle during the night of September 14-15.
- Russian Command rules (Nations 2-Red Army) are not in effect in this scenario. Chuikov had convinced Yeryomenko to give him the full command of the battle. Even the NKVD units are placed under his command.
