At 11.00 AM on the 9th of June, G Coy of Cpt Sauls, 3/325th Glider Infantry Regiment, crossed the bridge on the Merderet River and the causeway under the violent fire of the Germans. The company was decimated and the assault was pursued by the paratroopers of 507th PIR under the command of Cpt Rae.
