Historical Background:
On the Volkhov Front, in Leningrad area, the Soviet command had launched in August 1942 an offensive in order to rescue Leningrad besieged. This offensive was quickly stopped in the Siniavino's pocket by the German 11.armee just arrived from Crimea after the capture of Sevastopol. The German counter-offensive began on the 21st of September with six divisions to close the pocket first and then to destroy the surrounded units. The 170.Infanterie Division was supported by four new heavy tanks "Tiger" from the Schwere Panzer Abteilung 502. But this first use of "Tiger" was a setback because of the woody and swampy area, not at all adapted for heavy tanks. Nevertheless, this technical fiasco didn't prevent the success of the German counter-offensive.
The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn and you are in command. The rest is history.
