[DO2020] SC02 Attack on Hill B&C - October 25, 1944

Historical Background:
Oct 25, 1944: After securing Palo the Americans wanted to advance inland into Leyte Valley along highway 2. But the two hills overlooking highway 2, Hill B and Hill C were firmly in Japanese hands. After an initial skirmish for Hill Nan by American infantry supported by tanks, the Americans managed to take Hill Nan and advance to Hill Mike and along the north side of the Palo river on the 24th. On the other side of the River the troops trying to secure Hill B met with more resistance. Although they initially thought they had captured Hill B, they soon discovered that the crest they held was not the true crest. The true crest was strongly held by well dug-in Japanese that put up a fierce resistance. On the morning of the 25th the Americans were ready to advance on both Hill B and Hill C.

Hill B is a temporary medal objective for the Us player

Hill C is a temporary medal objective for both players (Japan starts with one medal.)

Special Rules:
Dutch Open specific:
The winter forests on hills are used to depict Jungle on Hills. They play the same as Jungle hexes but if you fire at a hill you are at the same level.
If playing Combat cards that ignore Jungle, you ignore the Jungle effects but the Hill effects stay the same.

Combat Cards:
To incorporate Combat cards into a tournament setting we played with these rules:
Each player gets three specific Combat cards to put in front of him, open on the table.
Japan: Spider Hole, Jungle Fighters, Camouflage
US: Heat of Battle, Armor Bulldozer, Return to Duty
To play a combat card (timing is on the Combat card itself) you play any one Tactic Card and place that on the desired Combat Card.
The Tactic cards stays on top of the Combat card and you draw a replacement card at the end of YOUR turn.
If Their Finest Hour is played reshuffle the covering Tactic Cards also.

Air Power is only 1 die for both players.

Use the Imperial Japanese Army rules (Nations 3)
Use the Camouflage rule, but only with the Camouflage Combat Card and Camouflage tokens are limited to 3 per scenario.
Use late War SWA rules for Mortar (SWA 6) and Machine Gun (SWA 7)
US troops marked with Ranger Badges are special forces (Troops 2)
US Troops marked with Engineer Badges are Engineers (Troops 4)
