Historical Background:
On Okinawa island, US troops of the XXIVth Army corps advanced towards the south. On the 5th of April, the soldiers of the 7th Infantry Division had crossed the Arakachi village when they were suddenly under heavy fire from a rocky peak. Company B, 184th Inf Rgt,attacked the Pinnacle at once but was repelled. On the 6th of April, after a short artillery fire, companies B and C made a frontal attack. The Japanese defenders , 1st Company, 24th Independent Infantry Battalion repelled again the attackers. During the third attack, Company B was repelled once again but Company C, which attacked on the flank, reached the top of the hill and destroyed methodically all Japanese trenches and caves. About twenty Japanese could escape to the south. The Pinnacle was a difficult battle but it was only an out-post !
