Historical Background: After the failure of the 11th Indian Brigade on Brig'sPeak, the Brits tried to reach Keren by crossing the mountains in the south-east, by a pass called "Acqua Gap". The mission to capture Acqua Gap was done to the 5th Indian Brigade who attacked in the night 7th to 8th of February. In the head of the attack, the 5th Rajputana Rifle reached Hill 1260 (Rajputana Ridge) then continued to the north to take Hill 1565 (Sangar) which overhang the pass. The Italians informed, opened fire with heavy mortars and machine-guns which scattered Indian troops. An Indian officer won a Victoria Cross when his platoon charged with fixed bayonets Hill 1565 and captured it. But later, the Italians counter-attacked and repelled Indians on Rajputana Ridge. Another failure for the British troops. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history !
