26th of December, 1941 - Kertch peninsula.
While the most part of the German 11th Army of Von Manstein was in front of Sebastopol, the 51st Soviet Army crossed the strait of Kertch and landed north and south of the city of Kertch. The landing in the north was repelled with heavy losses for the Russians but in the south, it was a success. The German 46th infantry division had to face in the same time to a third landing on its rear at Feodosya on the 29th of December. Consequently, this division withdraw out of the peninsula to avoid the surrounding. Von Manstein was obliged to postpone his planned assault against Sebastopol to send troops face to this new threat. For the Soviets Sebastopol was saved, for the time being at least !
