Historical Background:
The second japanese counter-attack began during the night 3rd to 4th May. For the support of the offensive, most artillery pieces were extracted of their caves and opened fire on US troops all the night. The japanese plan was to make a breakthrough in the center of the front-line (following the road to Ginowan) , to bypass the US positions in the aim of surround them in two separate pocket. The light tanks of the Japanese 32 Tank Regiment were the spearhead of the central offensive. In the darkness of the night, the Japanese could make some infiltration and captured some US positions but they were soon located then stopped by the heavy fire of all US defenders. All Japanese tanks were destroyed and the offensive was again a failure.
