Historical Background:
An column of the 6th Armored Division arrived in front of Han-sur-Nied on the 11th of November. The bridge over the Nied Française river was defended by some elements of the 17.SS Panzer Grenadier Division and several anti-aircraft guns on a neighbouring hill. Colonel Hines, commander of the US column ordered to clear the bridge and tanks of the B Company, 68th Tank Battalion, advanced to capture the bridge. The tanks were followed by A Company of the 317th Infantry with the support of an engineer company and a battery of armored howitzers M-7. Crossing the bridge under enemy fire inflicted some losses in tanks and infantry but the bridge was captured and the area was securized after the battle.
