Historical Background: On the 6th of May 1943, while the Allied forces advanced to Tunis and Bizerte, the 1st US Infantry Division 'Big Red One" crossed River Tine on an engineer bridge and attacked Hill 232 defended by German paratroopers of the Luftwaffe Regiment Barenthin. But the US battalions were surprised in open ground by the daylight just in front of German positions, The US infantrymen suffered heavy losses under the fire of machine-guns and mortars. Only four tanks could support the soldiers because the other tanks were stopped on the west bank of the river by the collapse of the bridge. One battalion was surrounded and took refuge in a wadi. This battalion was relieved only in the following night when the Germans withdrew the position. A last fight before the general surrender.
