Historical Background:
The Tunisia campaign was to the end. On the 8th of May 1943, from Tunis liberated the day before, the 6th British Armoured Division advanced to Hammamet and Cape Bon. But the British advance was stopped by a German rear-guard, the paratroopers of Kampfgruppe Franz with anti-tank guns of 50mm and 88mm Flak, at the Hammam Lif Gorge between the Mediterranean sea and Djebel er Rerouf. During the battle, while the infantry of Welsh Guards attacked the German defenses on the Djebel, tanks of the 17/21th Lancers bypassed the enemy by the beach. The road of Hammamet was open in the evening. The last Axis defences surrendered and on the 13th of May the Tunisia campaign was over.
