Historical Background:
After the liberation of Metz on the 22nd of November, the battle continued in Lorraine. From 27th to 29th of November, east of Saint-Avold, US soldiers of 317th Infantry (80th US Infantry Division) fought against grenadiers of the SS Panzer-Grenadier Regiment 38, entrenched behind the embankment of the railway at Farebersviller. US soldiers in the south part of the village could crossed the railway but were counter-attacked by a company of grenadiers supported by some panzers. The German counter-attack repelled US soldiers from the village which stayed in German hands for some days more.
