Historical Background: As the situation was wrong on the 28th of May, Colonel Yamasaki, Japanese commander on Attu Island, decided to counter-attack with all the remaining forces (about 1 000 men) in order to capture the US artillery batteries on Engineer Hill and the supply depots on Massacre Valley. It was his last hope, to defeat the enemy or to die. At Chichagof Harbor, the wounded had received the order to commit suicide. Japanese soldiers attacked in the dark morning of the 29th, surprising US soldiers and sweeping away the first lines. A medical clearing station was destroyed with all the staff and patients. On Engineer Hill, US non-combatant troops organized the defense and fought in close combat and finally stopped the Japanese. It was a dreadful carnage. It remains only 28 prisoners of war on all the Japanese garrison, more than 2300 were killed in the battle or commit suicide. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
