Historical Background:
After the success of Operation Varsity, the 6th Airborne Division continued its advance in Rhenany and crossed the Weser river in the night 5th to 6th of April, near the village of Lahde. In the area between Bierde and Quetzen, the British paratroopers were counter-attacked by Kampfgruppe Schulze, with 5 Tiger and 4 Panther supported by some half-tracks. The Red Devils had only some PIAT anti-tank weapons and the support of field artillery to fight against the panzers because the British tanks were still on the other side of the Weser. Some anti-tank guns arrived in reinforcement during the afternoon to support the paratroopers. Finally, the Kampfgruppe Schulze had to withdraw because of the heavy fire of British troops.
