Historical Background: In the evening of the 25th of June, British troops of the 49th Division were in the wood called Bois de Tessel but in the east of Fontenay-le-Pesnel some SS panzergrenadiers were still entrenched in the farm St Nicolas. The 1.SS Panzerkorps ordered to Kampfgruppe Wünsche to counter-attack and capture the Bois de Tessel on the 26th June. But in the morning the German counter-attack smashed up with a new British attack toward Rauray. A tank battle occurred in the open ground around the stream Le Bordel. Then in the afternoon, Kampfgruppe Wünsche was ordered to stop its attack because of the beginning of Operation Epsom by the VIIIth British Corps on the right flank toward St Manvieu and Norrey.
