Historical Background:
After the US breakthrough of Operation Cobra, the town of Percy became the pivot of the German defense in the area. It was in the same time the gathering place for units withdrawing from the Roncey pocket and the starting point for eventual armored counter-attacks, so Percy gathered units of several German divisions as the 275.Infanterie Division, the Panzer Lehr Division and the 2.SS Panzer Division. It was a major objective for allied troops. On the 30th of July the 115th Infantry (29th US ID) attacked la Cannière while tanks of the 66th Armored Regiment (2nd US Armored Division) advanced to Percy from Mont Robin. The battle last four days, US troops were reinforced by the 110th Infantry (28th US ID), a "green" unit which suffered heavy losses in the fighting. On the German side, the 116.Panzer Division replaced the Panzer Lehr Division exhausted. Finally, on the 02nd of August, Percy was liberated by US troops.
