Historical Background: On the 26th of November 1942, the Soviet army launched an offensive against Velikie Louki with the 3rd Shock Army under the command of Major-General Galitski. The next day the city was surrounded. In spite of several German counter-attacks from Novosokolniki, the Velikie Louki"festung" stayed cut from the German lines. The defendeurs, entrenched into the walls of the old fortress and armed with 22 Multiple Rocket Launchers "Nebelwerfer", resisted during two months. But the Soviet troops received reinforcements withe flame-thrower tanks KV-8. Finally on the 15th of January, with no more supply nor ammunitions, the last defenders tried to escape on small groups or had to surrender to the Soviet troops. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
Briefing: Axis player [Germany] : 6 command cards. Allied player [Soviet Union] : 6 command cards, you move first.
Conditions of Victory: 7 medals. The central hexagon of the fortress is a temporary medal objective for the Allied player.
Special Rules: - Use "Flame Thrower" rules for the two Soviet tanks units with badge (Troops 13). - Use "Screaming Meemies" rules (Troops 25) with incendiary or smoke shells. - Use "Frozen River" rules (Terrains 47) to the Lovat river.
