Historical Background: US troops of general MacArthur were coming back in Luzon, three years after the fall of Bataan. Just landed, General Krueger, commander of the 6th US army, was informed that a POW camp was still on the island and decided to release the US prisoners by a raid. Charlie company (C) of 6th Rangers Battalion was charged of this mission. Helped by Philippines guerrilla to cover their advance behind enemy lines, the Rangers assaulted the POW camp in the night of 30th of January. After that action, they had to come back into Allied lines, bringing back 516 US POWs weakened by three years of ill-treatment. The way back of the Rangers was covered by Philippines guerrilla who fought against pursuer Japanese troops. Finally, the US column reached the Allied lines, POWs were really saved. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
Briefing: Allied player [United States/Philippines] : 5 command cards, you move first. Axis player [Japanese Imperial Army] : 4 command cards.
Conditions of Victory: Option 1 : Allied player : Battle star represents POWs, once in Rangers hands, it has to reach the Guimba hospital. The moving of the battle star is always with a Ranger unit. Axis player : Avoid the Allied player victory conditions by recapturing the battle star.
Option 2 : 7 medals. The battle star worth 3 medals.
Special Rules: - 1st Allied turn is special, whatever the card played, at least one Ranger unit is activated and must attack the POWs camp. - POW camp Japanese guards are represented by a single figure unit. (No medal for its destruction). - Use "Resistance" rules for Philippines guerrilla units (Nation 1). - Use "Japanese Imperial Army" rules (Nation 3). - Use "US Marine Corps" rules for the two Marines units and the three Rangers units (Nation 4). - Use "Specialized Units" rules for the three Rangers units (Troop 2). - Use "Freeing Prisoners" rules (Action 7). - Use "Night Attacks" rules (Action 19). - Use "Fords and Fordable rivers" rules (Terrains 41) for the four fords on the Pampanga River.
