Carentan: Attack against the Ingouf farm - June 10, 1944 - June 11, 1944

Historical Background:
In the night between June 9th and 10th, 1944, the 502th PIR 3rd Battalion was heading for Carentan. After having passed over several bridges, US paratroopers reached the causeway of Carentan.

Then, scouts attempted to pass over the last bridge before the town, which was blocked by a "Belgian gate" (an obstacle that forms a choke point, forcing the soldiers to pass one by one). As soon as the soldiers crossed the river, they took heavy enemy fire: German Fallschirmjäger, using flares, fired at the Americans with machine guns and mortars. Entrenched in the Ingouf farm, the Germans hold their position. Moreover, they also had a 88mm Gun in Carentan, pointed on the road, threatening the US paratroopers - which were forced to fall back.

On June 11, colonel Cole's 502th PIR attacked the farm with artillery support of the 85th Armoured FAB and the 905th Glider FAB. But in the meantime, the Germans had left. Yet the paratroopers had to neutralize many resistance nests around the farm, which costed them many men, even if they finally managed to secure the area.

The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in commands. The rest is history.

The Ingouf farm is a Temporary Medal Objective for the Allied player.

Special Rules:
The battle starts in the night: use night battle rules (Actions 19 - Night attacks).

Flares: Any ordered Axis infantry unit may launch a flare instead of firing, choosing any hex in a range of 3 hexes. As soon as a flare has been launched, the targeted hex becomes visible for everybody till next turn (use a token to remember that).

All infantry units are elite units (Troops 2 - Specialized Units) except for the Allied Engineers (Troops 4 - Combat Engineers).

SWA rules (SWA 1 - Special Weapon Assets Rules) are in effect for the German unit equipped with a Mortar (SWA 3 - Mortar) and for the MG-42. The MG fires like the infantry unit it equips, but a star is also a hit on infantry units.

The German artillery unit in Carentan is a 88mm Gun. It fires at 2-2-2-2 and ignores terrain protections, but needs a Line of Sight to target a unit.

For this battle, Marshes represent flooded areas which are impassable.
