Historical Background:
Operating in central Ukraine as part of the 17th German Army, a Slovakian motorized brigade, named after its commander, Brig. General Rudolf Pilfousek, was ordered on July 22nd to capture the town of Lipovec.

But unfortunately for them, the Japanese got there first, and moved the whole town to Guadalcanal.

During the night of August 20-21, Russian scouts on the east bank of Alligator Creek detected the movement of a large body of Japanese troops. Col. Kiyonao Ichiki ordered his infantry troops forward, using "human wave tactics" but the Russians would not be dislodged. Using canister fire (pioneered in "War of the Worlds"), the Red Army decimated the Japanese wave. Ichiki than sent part of his force upstream to outflank the Russians, but after a fierce fight this attempt also failed.

A furious Russian counter-attack managed to break the infantry advance before they could occupy Lipovec, and a general retreat was ordered.

The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, crookedly, and you are in command. The rest is history.

Russian Player: Take 5 Command cards.

Conditions of Victory:
6 Medals

Special Rules:
Imperial Japanese Army Command rules are in effect (see Pacific Theater p. 7).

Russian Command rules are in effect (p.3 EF).

The Japanese Special Forces Infantry unit is an Engineer unit. Place a Japanese Engineer badge in the same hex with this unit to distinguish them from the other units. Engineers are explained on Pacific Theater p. 10.

Alligator Creek is a Fordable Stream. Fordable Streams are explained on Pacific Theater p. 6.

The River Szob is a fordable river, too, but it's not in this scenario. Climb every mountain; ford every stream.

Movement: A unit may enter a River hex that is a fordable stream, but must stop. The unit may still Take Ground after a successful Close Assault Combat. Battle: No combat restrictions. Line of Sight: A Fordable Stream does not block line of sight. This is only logical.

River Mouth has the same effect as River hex (M44 p. 15).

Jungles are explained on Pacific Theater p. 5.

Beaches have the same terrain effect as Beaches hex (M44 p. 15).

This scenario is explained by pairing two of the most notoriously unsuccessful armies in all of Memoir-dom, just to see what would happen.

Air Rules are optional. Shuffle both Air Sorties into the deck. If you draw an Air Sortie, you give it to the other player, and you draw a replacement card.
