Historical Background:
In the evening of June 8, 1944, as American troops were advancing toward Montebourg, they bumped into a strong line of defense set by the Germans along a stream near Magneville. The line was organized around strong defensive positions, including an immense airship hangar, held by elements of the 243rd Infantry Division and the Sturm Battalion AOK 7. Allied forces decided to dig in for the night and launch their attack the next day in the early morning.

On June 9, at 6.30 am, the attack began with an artillery barrage. Americans troops then advanced under heavy enemy fire. The battle lasted all day long, and in the evening Shermans were sent as reinforcements to try and take Magneville. However, the 88mm guns defending the town forced them to turn back. The American tanks finally flanked the town and attacked from the rear. With the help of their infantry the Allied armor drove the Germans back.

Simultaneously, Allied forces managed to take the airship hangar and its surroundings. Écausseville was still in German hands, but the German defenders, realizing that they were about to be surrounded, retreated north to Éroudeville.

The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
