Historical Background:
Because the Marines were heavily beaten by the Japanese near the Matanikau River, opposition against General Maruyama's forces became more lighter, so he finally broke through. The Airfield was in danger again: the force of Major General Suniyoshi successfully broke through the 7th Marines' heavily defended position near the Matanikau river, and endangered the airfield itself. General Alexander Vandegrift ordered his men to dig-in, and prepare their positions around the airfield. Japanese Battleship Haruna supported the attack with heavy fire support, but the Americans had their shorel guns also...

The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. Will the Marines be strong enough to stop the Japanese, or will the airport fall in the hands of the Japanese? Find out...

[ Japan ] Major General Masao Maruyama:
Take 6 cards. You move first.

[ US Marine Corps ] General Alexander Vandegrift:
Take 6 cards.

Conditions of Victory:
5 medals.

Henderson Airfield and the HQ worth each 1 medal for the Axis player. Place a Japanese Victory Medal token on these hexes.

Special Rules:
The Marine unit marked with a Marine Badge is an Elite Infantry unit. Place the respective badge on it to distinguish it.

Japanese Battleship Haruna supports the IJA's effort to capture the airfield. See rules for it in the PT rulebook.

The single figure unit on the HQ represents General Alexander Vandegrift. Mark him with a Battle Star token. He works as follows:

-May move 1-2 and never battle.

-Ending its moving near any allied unit, all friendly units next to him get +1 battle die.

-When the Japanese kill him, the Allies instantly lose 1 card. It hits on an infantry symbol. It DOESN'T counts as a medal.

Japanese units with 3 figures are the weary troops who fought on Edson Ridge. All IJA rules apply for them, but not the +1 die modifier (except when its healed by Medics&Mechanics card).

-US Marine Corps rule is in effect.

-IJA rules are in effect.

-Air rules are optional: If used, give both players 1 Air Sortie Card. The Airplane on Henderson Airfield is a F4F Grumman Wildcat. Place a F4U Corsair instead of it. It functions as a Corsair.
