Historical Background: Due to the Soviet winter offensive which followed the fall of Stalingrad, German troops were obliged to evacuate Kharkov in mid-February 1943. But only one week after, they counter-attacked the Soviet forces in South Ukraine.The SS PanzerKorps, spearhead of the German offensive, was composed of three SS divisions : "Leibstandarte SS", "Das Reich" and "Totenkopf". At the beginning of March, SS troops surrounded the city of Kharkov before to enter in the northern suburbs. The capture of the Dzerzhinsky Square after numerous street fighting symbolized the end of the battle for Kharkov. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
Briefing: Axis player [Germany] : 6 command cards, you move first. Allied player [Soviet Union] : 5 command cards.
Conditions of Victory: 7 medals. The 5 town hexes of Dzerzhinsky Square form a Temporary Majority Medal Objective, worth 1 Medal for whoever controls Dzerzhinsky Square. In this way, the Allied player begins the game with one medal in his victory track.
Special Rules: - Use "Red Army" rules (Nation 2). - Use "Specialized Units" and "Elite Armor" rules (Troop 2) to all Axis units. Badges are not required. - Use "Sniper" rules (Troop 10) to the Russian unit with sniper badge. - The river is not frozen, but impassable except by the bridges (Terrain 8). - The "Air Power" card is not allowed to the Allied player, discard it and take another from the pile. - Urban combat rules are optional if you have the battlemap "Sword of Stalingrad".
