Historical Background:
On December 31st, the Germans tried to push two Volksgrenadier battalions down the Saar Valley, while pushing two more down the Vosges Mountains to siege the Wimmaneaulngweiller road and push across the Rhine with added armor support. They pulled together five Volksgrenadier divisions, the Sixth Mountain SS division, with a reserve of the 21st Panzer division, the 25th Panzergrenadier division with artillery support, an armored flamethrower unit, and the 653rd Super Heavy Anti-tank company armed with Jagdtigers. The American 7th army had to cover a 126 mile front with six infantry divisions, 14th armored division and artillery support. The battle started at midnight as the snow began to fall. After four days, the American 7th army decided to chose a new direction for the assault.
