Historical Background:
The 1st Battalion of the 306th Regiments had pushed their way through to the town of Ie, near Government house at the bottom of the slopes of the Legusugu Pinnacle. The Pinnacle was the corner stone of the Japanese defence for the island, with fire from it causing many US casualties in preceding days. After fending of Japanese attacks during the night, the 306th launched their attack to claim the heights just after dawn.
Supported by air power and naval bombardments the assault soon had captured Government house. The Marines then advanced up the Pinnacle itself, forced to clear Japanese positions and pillboxes with grenades, flamethrowers and demolition charges. They managed to raise the American flag by mid morning but the battle was far from over, with the Japanese using cave networks to infiltrate and harass the Americans for days to come.
The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
