Historical Background:
In Picardy on the 12th of June 1940, the Chauvineau line, a line of field bunkers built to protect Paris, was armed by the 3th French light division around the village of Ormoy-Villers. German troops of the 6.Armee, arrived from the east by Soissons, were in Crépy-en-Valois and prepared to attack this tiny defense line. In the same time, almost surrounded by German units, the 87th French infantry division was withdrawing from the Somme in the north of Crépy-en-Valois. The 9th Zouaves regiment, an elite unit of the 87th division, was ordered to breakthrough the German lines and open the way for the rest of the division. While the battle was raging at Ormoy-Villers, the 9th Zouaves was fighting in Crépy-en-Valois against an enemy superior in number. Finally, the Zouaves succeeded to cross the enemy line in the night, divided in small groups and fighting with bayonet.
