Re:New Memoir '44 Equipment Pack - largest set of figures ever! Sun, 22 July 2012 11:25
Hello,

please, notice my friends and I have already preordered 3 Equipment Packs, but we have a minor complaint.

Probably has been already said, but with all the hype aroundish may go unnoticed.

Checking the OL battlemaps, we have seen that "Tigers in the Snow" needs 4 Tiger units. Laters, we noticed that the OP2 included 2 standard scenarios using the Tigers minis as well.

Probably this is happening with more of the minis included in the BattleMaps.

Why the decision of including only "3" Tigers when DoW knows they are not enough to set up these scenarios?

We are lucky, because we can share minis among us, but what if I want to play with only my own sets?

Cheers

In the Tigers expansion, 6 Tigers were included and this was more than enough for a given scenario in that expansion.

My guess is that they have included what players would need for any scenarios that use Tigers in the equipment pack scenarios only. So the inclusion of a fourth Tiger to cover a scenario from a prior expansion was not thought of.

Hello Tank Cdr,

imho, that's a terrible decision. I'm sure that including 6 minis of each battlemap instead of 3 wouldn't have changed the costs of the final product significantly.

And that would have given full support to previous scenarios, making the new expansion almost perfect.

Cheers

I was first dissapointed with 3 Tigers too, but I found out that it is enough for almost every official scenario. If I remember correctly, I found only one scenario where was used more then 3 Tiger units. But I didnt checked the Battle maps.

Checking those scenarios of CB2 using Tigers, 3 may look enough.

However:

OL Tigers in the Snow: 4 tigers
Villers-Bocage: 5 tigers
Saint-Aignan de Cramesnil: 6 tigers.

And that's only a quick peek. I will delve into it laters following this list at BBG

As for many OL scenarios, you need 2 packs off troops (for ex. troop packs med., pac., east.) as well to play, unless you are using 'the poor mans set'(following the same principal, you can use a tiger badge on the unit in the back), you might need 2 sets off the equipment pack as well !? I understand your frustration but I think they figured that anyone who had access to the Tigers exp scenarios also had the 6 Tigers minis too. That is my guess - they may have figured to "toss" in the 3 Tigers minis as a bonus for those who did not buy that expansion when it was available.

I agree with Tank Commander. I think this is exactly what they were thinking...and the fact that they made the scenarios available online was a bonus as well, not something they did to frustrate people.

The Battle Maps were designed for tournament play and not everyone wanted them (or liked them) when they were first released. The scenarios included in the Battle Maps were specially designed to be played on the printed map, so many of them include elements that most people can't reproduce anyway. An example of this, is the terrain required to set the maps up. Another element that was needed to be able to play the battles were the figures included in the packs. But again, the maps included in the packs could require whatever DoW wanted because it was all provided in the purchase!

But now the Battle Maps are out of print...but they continued to design maps that need figures from those packs. That's why Tigers, Trucks, Jeeps, etc are included in the Equipment Pack...so that we can all play the later maps that require those figures. But that does not mean that DoW is going to give us all the figures we would need for the Battle Map scenarios! Those were specially designed for the Map Pack, so if you didn't get one of those, you'll have to use tokens or something to make up the figures you don't have.

I realize this doesn't make it easier, but I hope it at least makes more sense. Smile

I was thinking about playing Hedgerow Hell, but discovered by the AARs that the Allies seldom win. In this expansion is there a tank (with those spikes they attached) that can bust through the hedgerows, maybe treating it as a forest hex for just that unit?

The other oddball unit I was hoping for is the amphibious tank or truck that can move across flooded fields, like they had in Holland. Is that an option?

They do not have either the DD Sherman or the DUKW (amph truck). I guess one could use the LC models to represent these special units.

25 summary cards.......

Can't think of 25 old rules/units so I suppose the summary cards are also for the new units. but 25?????

The only I can think of are some cards for the CB2 expension (jungle fighters) and some for the new units (Nebelwerfer, Funnies and accessories , Kubelwagen)

So also some new rules perhaps?? Or what do I forget here??

I'm a big fan of myself there for this quote Very Happy
Does anybody has any clou yet?

Jungle fighters, Veteran Star(maybe), Junkers JU 88(Maybe), Carpet Bombing(Maybe), all from the CB2.

Probably a couple of cards for the Hobart accessories.

I have to say sorry first, I've finally got the Equipment pack last week (yes a little late) Embarassed Rolling Eyes

But I finally get to answer my own question and raise another.
Some of the summary cards were to replace older ones, but I've got some that were exactly the same. did DOW do that to compensate for the expansions that were out of print??

Very possibly, but I haven't checked to see which ones were repeats and if they first came in an Out of Print expansion. I figure I'll just use them all... Very Happy

Some of the cards have minor tweaks. You have to look carefully to find out what changed, including some of the unit graphics.

I have a house Cullen Cutter rule.
1. Place a badge on a armor unit that is equipped with the Cullen Cutter.
2. When that armor unit enters a hedgerow hex, it must stop and not battle that turn to cut through the hedgerow.
3. If the Cullen Cutter equipped armor unit did not battle in the turn it entered the hedgerow, place a crater marker or cleared hedgerow marker (TOI) on that hedgerow. That hedgerow is now cleared and does not restrict movement, but does block line of sight.

It looks like Step 2 and 3 have some counter-information...in step 2 you say they have to stop and not battle when they enter (as normal for Hedgerows) and in step 3 you say that if they did not battle in the turn they entered...

But they aren't allowed to battle when they enter, so that qualification will be met every time. Smile Other than that it looks like a fun House Rule to get rid of those pesky Hedgerows! Cool

Thanks! I am also trying to come up with some kind of badge for this special armor unit. Your right, I can remove the "did not battle" from step three. I was just trying to make it clear that the unit could not do this special action if it battled. Also, did you know that the crab tank (flail tank) was also used to get rid of barbed wire? It had cutters on the hub that would cut up the wire as it turned. I saw this on a documentary once!

I think I had heard that the Crab could take out Wire as well. That's an easy House Rule to put in.

If you don't have time, there are some players here on the Forums who are really good at photoshop. I'll bet they could create a Badge for you if you sent them what you have in mind. Having said that, sometimes the fun is in figuring it out on your own, so you might want to do it yourself. Very Happy

Thanks, but I've done my own air defense artillery badge (for my air rules) and my own Light Tank badges (check them out in my gallery), so I think I can come up with something!

Cullen Cutter equipped Shermans where called "rhinos".

You could combine the 2nd Armoured Div. badge with a rhinoceros outline.

Cool
