BattleLore Wiki Created Fri, 29 December 2006 17:37
Hello everyone - the Unofficial BattleLore Wiki is now available!

A wiki is a great way to manage community-created websites. This one is ready at once to collect our:

Variant Rules
BattleLore Links
Downloadable Documents

I have placed some starting content there (including the interesting armor rules posted in another thread), but everyone is welcome to sign up and help it grow!

Please pardon me if this is considered a rude double-post or something, but I thought that the BL forum community at large, and not just those engaged in the discussion over whether DoW should create a wiki might like to know about this new resource.

DoW Position / Policy on related sites? Thu, 04 January 2007 00:32
Since creating the BattleLore Wiki, there has been quite a bit of concern regarding DoW's attitude / policy regarding sites that discuss their games.

I tried PMing a crew member, but haven't received a reply yet, so I'm posting here in public with a few questions.

  • What's DoW's overall policy regarding fan sites?
  • What restrictions does DoW place on such sites regarding use of names, images, etc.?
  • What restrictions doe DoW place on such sites discussing and / or posting rules, faqs, house rules, variants, etc.?
  • What, if any, resources for such sites does DoW have? For instance, is there a "fan site art pack" available as some companies provide?

If we're not allowed to post or discuss rules of the game, obviously, the whole wiki is pretty much pointless, and therefore I'll take it down.

If we are, I think it could be a valuable resource for the BL community.

Not knowing is, I think, quite stifling at the moment. For instance, one member is considering writing some clarifications of the Morale chapter, but doesn't know if he'd be allowed to post it.

I'm impressed by DoW's attitude toward their fans and customers to date, and would be surprised if they felt the wiki was inappropriate. But I guess the possibility exists, so I'd like to find out for certain.

Thanks,

jkottler

jkottler,

We have no problems with fan sites for our games, so feel free to continue with your wiki. And of course you may discuss rules and clarifiations, post variants or house rules. We will not be able to monitor your wiki for accuracy, and "official" rules clarifications will still be posted here on the Days of Wonder forums and website.

We do not allow sites to post any of our published documents such as the Rulebook, Adventures Booklet, etc. or replicate complete documents such as FAQ's from our website (you should just post a link to any such documents on our site).

As with our other games, we may from time to time post artwork for fan usage that can only be used for non-commercial purposes and you can create a link to those as well when available.

If images are used from the game or website on your wiki, we only ask that there be a copyright mention somewhere on the page where the image occurs. Here is the standard copyright text:

Some or all of the text and illustrations used herein are Copyright © 2002-2007, Days of Wonder, Inc., All Rights Reserved.

I think that covers all your questions. Have fun!

Excellent idea !

Could you add a link to the (official?) FAQ if any ?

I don't see an official FAQ as of yet, but when there is one, any wiki member is free to add a link to it. I'll do it if I'm the first one there, but the whole idea of wikis is that the community as a whole can easily edit the site.
