Back to the Great British Iconic Tank debate, I think a lot of the Valentine production was undertaken by Canada and almost all of that went to Russia. The Matilda was only used at the beginning of the war and there were never very many of them. The Crusader was only used operationally as a gun tank in NA and was less than a sterling success. The Comet and Cromwell were late war tanks. The
A-9/10/13s(including the Convenenter), and the assorted light tanks were all early war only and not very good really. Only one British tank was generally agreed to be a good tank, was adaptable, reliable and served in all theaters of the war, the Churchill. And, I might add, was distinctively British in appearance.

As to the artillery, it just HAS to be the 25 pounder, as ubiqutous as the American 105.

At this point, you know as much as the rest of us. Confused We already know from the Air Pack that DoW isn't going to give hints or clues about when something is coming out because they don't want to disappoint everyone if there are delays. We all just have to wait until there is an official announcement or release date. Cool

Would love to see a British expansion. As for which tank, it has to be the Churchill. I know a veteran who fought in one and he says that in spite of its slow speed and weak armament, he preferred it to the Sherman due to it's much thicker armour.

This is a great waste of time ....
The first and in fact, the only question that MUST be answered before we even think about this Brits expansion :

Is Air Pack selling well ?

If so, maybe , maybe DoW are wondering whether to produce or not a new expansion .

If Air Pack is below their intend sales goal , them , buddies , forget about Brits and whatever next...

In my case, I think would be better for DoW to produce a new wargame. Maybe , an upgraded version of M44 with more combat rules, a larger board ...

The Air Pack just hit the shelves ...it was less than 6 months ago !
What are we expecting ? A new expansion every 6 months ?

First, we must enjoy the Air Pack juice to the last drop . Then, maybe in 2009 this Brits expansion may appear...not before...

A hug...

You may think it is a waste of time; however Eric H. (DoW) announced several months ago that they would be releasing the British Expansion and an Equipment Expansion in 2008. I am just looking for an update.

I for one plan on taking Eric and DoW at their word. I hope we'll see an expansion in 2008 and I'm still busy enough with the Air Pack that I can wait for updates.

I think I'll wait to complain about there not being an expansion until after 2008 has passed. Cool

Shhhh... don't say that out loud, that is like dropping your car off for service, and saying... No hurry! two weeks later... still didn't finish the 15 min. oil change! Shocked However, I too am still busy with the 'other' expansions. Razz

I'm not complaining, I'm inquiring. I love all of the expansions so far so I think it is natural to be excited and axnious to get the Brit's.

I wont to disappoint you hope in DoW , people. I just saying all we have is 'mentions' in a interview ...

But, REAL info, in DoW site , we havent at all !!!
There's nothing official to endorse this Brits expansion up to now !

Lets wait Air Pack is unsuccessful enough and then we'll welcome this expansion or another...

I don't understand why you think Eric...who is DoW...would do a big interview and lie about the next expansion they are working on. Confused An interview is REAL info and I would say we do have official news that DoW is working on stuff.

You've been talking doom and gloom about the Brits coming when we as consumers have no idea how sales have been going or how far they are in production of their projects. Shocked

Give those guys a chance! They aren't just sitting around. They have ideas, projects, deadlines...and just because we don't know what they are doesn't mean we should bitch and moan about it!

Sorry, I'm done. Rolling Eyes Give DoW a chance before we accuse them of going out of business or not taking care of their fans and customers! Cool

Are you crazy ? Im not accusing them of anything ! In fact , I dont care that much for this Brit expansion.

I would like to see an improved M44 game . Another expansion like Eastern Front or PT with just a new national rules and half dozen scenarios are not in my wishlist...

But many people here.. are desperate for news...

We need to remember one thing...DoW produces games and expansions to sell thousands of copies. They WONT release anything just to fulfill the endless appetite for expansion of fews M44 lovers...

You know, they must pay salaries , make DoW grows ...etc , etc..and If they think 'Oh...maybe this Brits expansion wont sell what we think ...' Lets forget about what we said in that long-way-ago-in-a-far-distance-galaxy interview and lets make it happen with another titles or whatever...

Im done with this thread...lets respect DoW silence about this subject..if one day we see a Brits expansion better,if not, even better...

I was just visiting this thread from page 1. Loved the list of British scenarios from Mr & Mrs Guderian. What happened to Roobarb? I haven't seen any post from him in awhile, or Mr & Mrs Guderian either? Well, while I must say, I understand the need some people have for a British expansion, I play these and other scenarios now with the badges available in the terrain pack expansion, and the allied pieces available now. Yes, the British did use sherman tanks, some of them with their own guns. But, maybe the reason I feel this way is because I am an American. I do know that if they had started the game with British pieces and left our armies out of a WWII game, I would be mad. It would have to have some expanded rules or something for me to plop down my money, or I would go on using green units with badges from the Terrain Pack.

As for official scenarios, I don't play them much. I have too much fun making my own with the scenario editor, and playing the really good ones Brumbar and others have made.

If I may advertise my own scenarios;
--Historical Scenarios--
Iwo Jima: The Real Thing
Iwo Jima: Airfield 1
Iwo Jima Airfield 2
Battle of Khalkhyn Gol
--Fictional Scenarios--
Hungarian Impasse
Battle at Orsfeld

Maybe I ought to research a good British WWII battle to develop into another scenario, any suggestions?

I copied this from another post, but the point is that Eric (DoW) responded with a resounding yes that there would be new M'44 products this year. Combine that with his interview from about 6 months ago and the Brits look very definite for 2008.......WOOOOHOOOO!

Jerusalem - a poem by William Blake

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

Well, I'm sure looking forward to that!

Wondering what the equipment expansion might be: Various types of tanks? ( so no longer a tank will be just a tank, but you might differentiate in strength and speed etc.), Katyusha rocket Launchers? Various types of artillery pieces? More aircraft? Perhaps all of the above??

Dear Sniper,
Could you please reference where you heard the hint of an equipment expansion. To date, the only expansions I have heard about are the Campaign Bag and the much awaited (drum roll please) British Expansion.

The Blood, Sweat and Tears speech by Sir Winston Churchill

"That this House welcomes the formation of a government representing the united and inflexible resolve of the nation to prosecute the war with Germany to a victorious conclusion."
To form an administration of this scale and complexity is a serious undertaking in itself. But we are in the preliminary phase of one of the greatest battles in history. We are in action at many other points-in Norway and in Holland-and we have to be prepared in the Mediterranean. The air battle is continuing, and many preparations have to be made here at home.
In this crisis I think I may be pardoned if 1 do not address the House at any length today, and I hope that any of my friends and colleagues or former colleagues who are affected by the political reconstruction will make all allowances for any lack of ceremony with which it has been necessary to act.
I say to the House as I said to ministers who have joined this government, I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many months of struggle and suffering.
You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to wage war by land, sea, and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.
You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs - Victory in spite of all terrors - Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.
Let that be realized. No survival for the British Empire, no survival for all that the British Empire has stood for, no survival for the urge, the impulse of the ages, that mankind shall move forward toward his goal.
I take up my task in buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among men. I feel entitled at this juncture, at this time, to claim the aid of all and to say, "Come then, let us go forward together with our united strength."

Stevens,

The hint at the equipment expansion is in the Eric's interview with Aldie from BGG. A link is listed earlier in this thread.

Game on and bring on the Brits!

Nice! I have two 1:72 tanks that I haven't built yet but hopefully this summer I'll get to it. I'd like to get a British tank...any advice?

I've been working slowly on French Resistance figures lately. I'm still not to the level of shading my guys yet, but it's fun and it makes the game look great!

Find a camera to borrow! I want to see pics. Very Happy

Agreed, Franco American game...

There is a French Army, the best fighting France did was with U.S. Armor/Infantry Equipment, Artillery, Aircraft... Just paint them to represent French Units. (and the Resistance is represented already) Vive La France !

REF: British Expansion, YES.
