Re:What's going on with Memoir? Sat, 19 March 2016 20:07
Hello,

Obviously each of us have our own opinions and tastes. With that in mind, I bought the Air Pack on eBay for way too much money last Fall. My son and I don't use it much at all any longer, except for the cards. I have found that if we commit to using the planes, then it fundamentally changes the way we play Memoir '44. Most of the time, the planes just crash because we want to do other things in the game rather than keep them up in the air.

Does that make sense? Does anybody else feel that way?

For what it is worth, I am enjoying this thread. I really like reading all of the other ideas out there that could add to the Memoir '44 canon.

Best Regards,
Bob

I do feel that using the air rules complicates the game somewhat, so actually more often than not, I don't use them either. While most memoir rules are quite intuitive and come back to you easily after a relatively long time of not playing it, I always find i do have to constantly reread the air rules, although maybe that's just me (?). I feel like a one page air rules summary would come in very handy...

I do like the added options of e.g. ground support and ground interdiction, though, and the constant dilemma of whether to keep the plane flying or whether to actually attack/defend elsewhere is more urgent.

PS: according to the tactcis and strategy guide one should keep the plane in the air as long as possible, but doing so involves building up a good hand so you can actually do so.

But yes, IMHO using the air rules indeed greatly changes the way memoir is played (which is not necessarily a bad thing as it offers yet another different experience of playing this great game (normal board vs Overlord vs breakthrough; Western front vs Mediterranean vs Eastern vs Pacific front etc.)

While I agree with your comments about a second Air Pack, boersma8, for those of us who are new to this great game, it would be nice to get a "first" Air Pack. But, I understand, it has been discontinued. Sad

That's a valid point. Then again, if a second airpack were to materialize with some different models, some added tanks models and summary cards (so players owning air pack 1 would also buy it) but would also include the orginal air rules, I guess both types of players could be satisfied.

Hello oui une seconde edition de l'air pack avec un contenu un peu différent mais avec les mêmes règles pourrait effectivement bien se vendre !

A new improved Air Pack 2.0 would be nice. Many scenarios require or suggest Air Rules. Even thought the rules of Air Pack 1.0 kinda suck i still would like to have a copy. But the prices for Air Pack 1.0 are just insanely high.

Some deeper Naval rules and plastic pieces for Battleships, Submarines and what not would be also great. I could easily see entire memoir 44 scenarios based on Naval battles only.

Well, just my 2 cents...

And i hope the support for memoir 44 really continues sooner or later. I don't care so much about the online version.

I am already depressed enough because of what happened to Tide of Iron. I don't want to see same thing happening to memoir 44.

I recently spent like 600€ on memoir 44 stuff. About 900€ in the upcoming 3 month is planned to get just everything and to have every piece for an full D-Day game.
So yeah, better continue the support or i am gonna get somewhat pissed Razz

You could use my air rules, downloadable from my user page. In my rules, the airplanes are only on the board while attacking (or ferrying a heroic leader, or performing recon. Under my rules, ground units can attack air units. Also it features real ground and air interdiction.

What do you mean with 1/300 figs? From where?

I will go with the official Memoir 44 stuff for D-Day and everything else.

I also need battleship/carrier figures that look somewhat close to the memoir 44 plastic minis. Any advices? (living in europe).
Don't really like the ship tokens...

SEARCH "destroyers too if you are interested.

Just found this site:
http://panzerschiffe.com/American_Warships_from_World_War_II .html

Not sure about the scale, they might be too large?

But which Destroyers and Carriers would fit best for Memoir 44?

Any of the destroyers from W@S will fit in the 2" hexes, but they may be a little underwhelming, you could substitute them with cruisers, they will stand out a little better Smile

As for the carriers, the USS St.Lo and USS Guadalcanal would be nice pieces for use with M44.

These ships from a company that makes A&A boardgame pieces might fit better:

I've bought German Morser artillery pieces for "Big Guns" artillery, and German SP artillery pieces from them.

Hi. Any idea of the scale of the ships for the A&A boardgame pieces? Thanks in advance.

My worry is that even the box expansions are disappearing. The pacific and Mediterranean packs are getting rarer, in the UK.

Twisted Evil Seems to be some variation day to day in how available things are. I have been following the basic expansions on Amazon, USA. The Pacific Theater expansion had been well over $150 for a while; but this morning see it has dropped to $52.25??? And it is listed as coming to Amazon from the BT GROUP-- which purports to be "from the manufacturer"??? Anyway, it pays to keep an eye on the supply.

Best of luck to all,

Don

There is a lot of air pack interest ongoing. Check out this more recent forum thread
