Hi Roger.

If you are taking about Memoir '44, ordinarily PBEM is not needed.

The time needed to play a match (players play one scenario twice and switch sides for game 2) only takes about an hour or less. Of course this depends on the scenario, experience level of the players involved and their knowledge of the rules and in some respects to the scenario being played.

Might I direct you to the Memoir '44 Ladder site where match play has been going on for over 10 years:

https://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/2709

The advantages of Vassal play over the DOW online play is this:

It offers most of the official scenarios along with hundreds of SFTF.

ALL the rules can be used correctly -- the players just have to know them.

A game can be stopped and saved to be resumed later with a saved log file.

If there is a disconnect, then it can be resumed later with a saved log file.

There is no chance that a misclick will cost you a move turn as can happen in Online play. A bit of a horror story here on that -- once I played an Armor Assault and ordered 4 tanks. I clicked the order tab and it seemed to freeze. I waited a bit and clicked it again and the second click skipped my move entirely. So instead of having 4 tanks attack with a min of 16 dice and perhaps as many as 32 dice I got off 1 attack with 3d.

If you wish, send me a PM as to Vassal play and perhaps we can arrange a day to "sit down" over this great game.

Thank you,

John
