I understand "good ole boys" as "ole" like "ol'" = "old" not like OLE.
(of course OLE members - among others - are part of "the good ol' boys").

I'm there since the beginning and I don't see such a big difference.

No cheating in the good ol' days?
Well, there was a final of the SPWC predecessor not played due to (alleged?) cheating of one Finalist.
There were people whose ELO got reduced after the history was opened.
There were People accusing whole nations of cheating.
...

More respect in the good ol' days?
I don't see a difference here, there were always people who were a pain in the neck (or other body parts) and there'll always be.
Just some people maybe changed from one side to the other (or did so in my perception).

There always were different stances on
- what is considered politeness (grats/thx/gg after each game or not? Trash talk yes or no?)
- what is sportmanship (premature grats ok or not? offer restart when opp is damaged by a bot move or not? no-show at agreed date = forfeit or not? what playing times do you have to offer/accept?)
and there'll always be.

I still enjoy NC and the community very much, although some of my old friends aren't there any more and I don't have that much contact with the new players because I play less casual games than in the old days.

Thx dea, yapp maybe i am wrong here, so i can delete my earlier post. Nevertheless i still think there is a big difference. I cannot remember a cheater or hate. For me it was just fun and that changed. But not only because of all these stupid fights. It is just not my game anymore.

And sry, Ommie, when i misunderstood your post.

Hey, well, sorry for using American slang. I forget sometimes that not everyone will understand these expressions... Very Happy

This is an expression that comes from the South and basically refers to an exclusive club. Most can't join because they're not a 'good ole boy' who meets certain criteria, blah blah blah.

My point here is that it's useless (and annoying) to hold onto the awesomeness of 2005. I'm sure there was great spirit and lots of good stuff, but ttr was in it's infant stage. Things change and improve. Back then there was a group of players that were considered untouchable and unbeatable. There just weren't that many good players, so the gap between levels was huge. If you were one of those players, it's probably fun to remember how awesome it was to destroy others.

The same can not be said now. There are many good players and everyone can get beat at some point. No one is untouchable or unbeatable. The level is higher now with smaller gaps between players because so many more people understand and play the game better than before. Do the old guard really think they were better in 2005 than they are now (if they've continued to play the entire time)? I doubt that. But, if you haven't played much since 2005 maybe you were better then... Twisted Evil

p.s. Nay, you and Pete need to go sign up for league. We're missing our OLD OLE members... Razz

I think you are right, the level is higher than 2005. I wasn't talking about that but rather about the spirit.

Me in the beginning of 2005: 2 tix, Dallas-NY - Kan Hou - guess my first move Very Happy

I don't remember the year when i had more than 1700 and at that time the level was higher than it is today. Anyway, in less than a week i lost about 150 points cause of multis and i quit playing. More or less, but because of league i got about 100 back, so.... maybe sometime Smile
But pretty sure that Pete will sign up.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, your family and of course to the rest of the community!

Ciao
Nay
