Historical Background:
In March 1944, Soviet General Tolbukhin, commander of the 4th Ukrainian Front, received the order from Stalin to liberate the Crimea. On the 8th of April, the 51th Soviet Army attacked from a bridgehead won during last winter south of the Sivash sea. Soviet tanks of the 19th Tank Corps crossed the swamps of the Sivash thanks to bridges built underwater by the sappers and not seen by Axis troops. The defenders of the area, German soldiers of the 336.Infanterie Division, were surprised by this easy crossing of the Sivash and didn't succeed to stop the Soviet offensive in Crimea.
