Historical Background:
The Ardennes Offensive, called Unternehemen: Wacht am Rhein (Operation Watch on the Rhine) by the German military, officially started on 16 December 1944. Wacht am Rhein was supported by subordinated operations known as Bodenplatte, Grief, and Wahrung. Germany's planned goal for these operations was to split the British and American Allied line in half, capturing Antwerp, Belgium, and then proceeding to encircle and destroy four Allied armies, forcing the Western Allies to negotiate a peace treaty in the Axis powers favor. The beginning of this offensive coincided with a winter storm that kept the allied aircraft grounded. On December 23rd the weather cleared and the P47 Thunderbolts assaulted the Panzer divisions. By Christmas eve, the German supply line had dried up and they were short on supplies, while the British 29th armored brigade had taken the bridges across the Muese and were waiting for them.

Briefing:
First, remove the air power and air sortie cards from the deck.
Allies: Take 5 command cards until the German paratroopers are gone, then draw two more before your next turn.

Axis: The German player should put three infantry figures in the palm of his hand and drop them from 1 ft high. Any figure that lands in a hex of its own, gets three other figures to make a full infantry unit. Any figure that lands in a hex with any other figure, is removed from play. These units are special forces, and make up operation Grief, which cut communication lines and created havoc for the allies. While these units are still on the board, the allied players only get 4 command cards. On the turn after these units are eliminated, the allied player receives the two additional cards before his turn begins.
Take 6 command cards and move first.

Conditions of Victory:
Allies: You must take and hold Bastogne and Malmedy and take eight more medals

Axis: You must take and hold Bastogne, St Vith, Aachen, and take eight more medals

Special Rules:
The German Special Forces armor are Tiger and Panther armor units. They move 3, fire 4-4-4 and grenades are counted as misses. They also start the game off with four figures.
The new Tiger tank mini can be used instead if you own them. They will fire 4,3,2,1 (house rule for the 88mm) and use the same tiger rules when hit.
