Historical Background:
During the withdrawal of Axis troops after the battle of El Alamein, British troops tried to bypass by the desert in order to cut the path of the withdrawing troops. This was the case in Nofilia area when British armor of the 4th Light Armoured Brigade, followed by the infantry of the 2nd New Zealand Division, outflanked the remains of German 15 and 21.Panzer Division. A German armored counter-attack was necessary to repulse the British tanks and to keep open the Via Balbia road for the withdrawing units.
