Historical Background:
In early December 1942, under the command of General Juin, French troops reorganized to participate in the fight against Axis troops in Tunisia. After a first attack failed, the Carpentier battlegroup, poorly equipped and composed of one battalion of 7th RTM (Moroccans), one company of goumiers and one battery of 67th RAA (colonial artillery) and reinforced by light tanks of "C" company, 1st US Armored Regiment, attacked again towards Pont du Fahs. At Oum el Abouab, the enemy line was held by Italian troops of division Superga. After a fierce battle where French soldiers were ready to succeed, a German counter-attack with tanks and panzergrenadiers with the support of Luftwaffe, stopped definitively the French offensive towards Pont du Fahs.
