Historical Background:
Finally on the 20th of November 1941, Rommel understood that Operation Crusader was a major offensive to relieve Tobruk. He ordered to send all his tanks to recapture Sidi Rezegh airfield. 15.Pz Div and 21.Pz Div advanced then to attack Sidi Rezegh from the South. In the morning of 21st of November, 7th Armoured Brigade saw a great number of German tanks coming. While 7th Support Group defended the airfield, British tanks deployed on the South Escarpment to face the German attack. Reinforced by 88mm guns used as anti-tanks, the German tanks reached the edge of the Escarpment, destroying one by one the British tanks. At the end of the day, the airfield was still in British hands but the 7th Armoured Brigade had no more than twenty tanks in service on a total of 140 at the beginning of Operation Crusader.
