Historical Background: On the 12th of June 1944, after a fierce battle, the city of Carentan was liberated by paratroopers of the 101st US Airborne Division. The day after, the defensive line established south of the city was attacked by SS panzergrenadiers of the 17.SS PanzerGrenadier Division "Götz von Berlichingen" and the remnants of the 6.Fallschirm Regiment (Colonel Von der Heydte). The famous Easy Company /506th PIR, was in the first line, and received the assault of the SS panzergrenadiers SS supported by some Sturmgeschütz (Assault Guns). The Easy Company kept its position, driving back the enemy while the other US companies were withdrawing to Carentan. In the afternoon, an Allied counter-attack repelled the Germans and linked with the Easy Company. This battle called "Bloody Gulch" contributed to the fame of the Easy Company.
