Historical Background:
After the battle of Oyin, the Indian units under the command of Major-General Cowan continued their way to meiktila and captured the villages of Taungtha, Mahlaing and the airfield of Thabutkon. Arriving in the vicinity of Meiktila, the Allied tanks were stopped by a strong Japanese roadblock at Mile Stone 8. Making a left hook around the defenders, the tanks of the 5th (Probyn's) Horse knocked out the artillery supporting the Japanese strong point. After an air strike, the Allied tanks supported by an infantry battalion of the 63rd Brigade captured the roadblock. In the evening, the Indian advanced patrols could see Meiktila.
