Historical Background:
During their advance towards Sarmi on the east coast of new Guinea, US troops were stopped by a Japanese fortified hill, which was later named "Lone Tree Hill". After the failure of the first attack on the 28th of May, the Tornado Task Force remained on the defensive, waiting for reinforcements. With the arrival of the 6th US Infantry Division, the Task Force under the command of General Sibert could attack on the 20th of June. Entrenched in caves , the Japanese fought fiercely and made several counter-attacks. Nevertheless, US troops succeeded to to capture the top of the hill and to hold defensive positions on it. On the 25th of June, Lone Tree Hill was definitively in US hands and the Japanese withdrew to another defensive position on the Woske River.
