Historical Background:
On the 22nd of June 1941,Operation Barbarossa, the German attack of Soviet Union began. The objective for Army Group "Nord" was to destroy all Soviet forces in in the Baltic countries and then to advance to Leningrad. Panzer-Gruppe 4 was the spearhead and had to capture the bridges on the Duna River. While the 61.Armee Korps advanced quickly to Dunaburg, on its left wing the 41.Armee Korps was stopped near Raseiniai by a counter-attack made by the Soviet 3rd Motorized Corps. German soldiers discovered suddenly the Soviet heavy tanks KV-1 and KV-2 which resist to all German anti-tank shells. During two days, units of the 6.Panzer Division and 1.Panzer Division fought fiercely to defeat this unexpected resistance. On the 26th of June finally, the total destruction on the Soviet 3rd Motorized Corps opened the way of the 41.Armee Korps to the Duna River.
