Historical Background:
The 2nd DINA (North African Infantry Division) tried to breakthrough towards Armentières using the bridges of Sequedin during the night 28th to 29th of May. The assault was made by the II/13 RTA with the support of a tank platoon from 19h30. The bridge of the Deûle River was crossed easily and the French battalion captured Sequedin. But the second bridge was mined and a damaged tank blocked the way. In the mean time, the Germans reinforced their defense. Under the fierce enemy fire, the II/13 RTA had loose the two thirds of its strength without making the breakthrough. At dawn,it was ordered to stop the battle and to withdraw behind the Deûle River.
